Free versions make it easier for people to get used to your product but you don't want them to ruin their profitability.

Thanks! Yeah it's hard to walk that line for vendors. Idea is to keep the version usable and still not compromise (cannibalize) sales. If you (or anybody else on this forum) has any ideas on a free version limitation(s) - please share. Host B could Share 2000GB of non protected by HA storage and both host A and B could join together to host 128GB of HA protect storage as well. Host A could share 1000GB of not protected by HA storage. You could then share out 3 lots of iscsi storage to use to run VM's or other data from. Host A you assign 1,128GB of local storage to starwind and host B you assign 2,128GB to its starwind. But you can also have both the limited 128GB of HA storage and a larger non HA storage at the same time with the free version.įor example if you had two hosts A and B. You can only use the free HA for very limited applications because of it's size restrictions. The paid versions allows larger HA storage. It works by storing this 128GB on both hosts and keeping them always in sync with the same data.

But you could install it on two hosts and share out up to 128GB of storage via HA mode where the storage and anyone using it will keep on working even if one of the hosts fail. But If that host/node has a problem or goes down then anyone using that storage will stop working. You can use StarWind Free to share as much of the local storage from a host out to clients or other hosts.
